BREAD HALWA- WEDDING STYLE

Bread halwa is a delicious sweet made using bread, milk and dry fruits. I have already shared the recipe of bread halwa here, and in this post I am sharing a recipe of bread halwa that is often served in Muslim weddings. This recipe has bread cooked in sugar syrup. Try out this really simple and easy recipe at home and I am sure you will love it.

Ingredients

12 slices of bread
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped dry fruits
Oil and ghee for frying

Method

  • Remove the edges from the bread and cut each slice into 4 pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the bread slices till golden in colour.
  • Heat 2 tbsp ghee in another pan and stir fry the dry fruits till golden in colour.
  • Then heat water and sugar in the same pan and bring to a boil.
  • Cook for about 8 minutes till the syrup is sticky, (jamun sheera consistency) and add the bread slices to it.
  • Reduce heat and mix well till the bread slices turn soft.
  • Add milk and continue cooking for a few minutes till it has reached a halwa consistency.
  • Now add the roasted dry fruits and mix well.
  • Switch off the gas and allow to cool.
  • Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours and serve cold.
