DIY HEADBAND

Headbands in vibrant colours are great accessories that add look and style to any outfit. Here I am sharing a step by step tutorial on how to make a headband. You do not need a sewing machine for this (though you can make one with it) as you can do the basic stitches with needle and thread. Will post a tutorial on how to make a 2 sided headband in my next post.

Materials needed

1 rectangular piece of fabric (cotton or any other stiff fabric)

width = 3 1/2"
length = 13" (you can measure your headband length between your ears and add 1/2" for stitching allowance)

1 rectangular piece of sponge or stiffener of same dimensions

1 elastic (white or black) of length = round head - headband length

Fold the cloth into half and stitch leaving 1/4" allowance in the reverse side.

Take the cloth inside out and you will see the correct side.

Make sure that the stitched part is kept at the centre.

Now fold the sponge and insert it into fabric.

Stitch elastic at the two edges. Fold the edges as shown and stitch.

Take a contrastic piece of cloth, fold and stitch long stitches on one side.

Pull the thread and join the two edges. It will form a flower.

Stitch this to the headband on one side and stitch a sequin on top. I made this for my 3 year old daughter. You can customize it according to your preference.

Your headband is now ready.

In the same way you can make headbands of different colours, fabrics, sizes and designs.
