HOW TO MAKE PAV BUN AT HOME/ EGGLESS PAV BUN

I like baking and have shared several recipes of cakes, pizzas and cookies in my blog. However, I had never baked Pav bun before and this is my first attempt at making Pav bun at home. The Pav buns came out perfect - soft, spongy and delicious. I could not believe that the Pav bun would taste so delicious just like the ones we get in a bakery.

Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour (maida)
1 and 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt
2 to 3 tbsp warm milk
¼  cup warm water (or as needed)
2 tbsp oil or butter

Method

  • Take ¼ cup warm water in a bowl, add sugar and yeast and mix well. The sugar and yeast should dissolve.
  • Set aside for 5 to 10 minutes till it turns frothy and creamy.
  • Now take a bowl, add all purpose flour and salt and mix well.
  • Next add the yeast mix, warm milk and mix well.
  • Add some more warm water and knead for 5 to 10 minutes till you get a smooth dough.
  • Add oil or butter and knead for a couple of minutes.
  • Place the dough inside a bowl and close with a lid.
  • Allow the pav dough to rest for about an hour for the dough to double in size.

  • When the dough has doubled, punch it down, dust some flour and knead again for about 5 minutes.
  • Divide this into 7 or 8 uniform balls and place them inside an aluminium baking pan leaving some space between the dough balls.
  • Cover and set aside for another proofing of about an hour.
  • The dough balls would again double in size like this.

  • Preheat the oven at 160 degree Celsius for 10 minutes and grease the top of the dough buns with milk.
  • Now place the pan in the central rack of the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes till the pav buns turn golden in colour.

  • Take out the pan and immediately apply some butter on top of the buns.

  • Serve warm with bhaji.

See how soft and spongy the pav bun looks!
