Chana masala or chole is a very popular dish often served with pooris or batura. It is very easy to cook and tastes delicious.


100 gms chana/ chickpeas (soaked in water overnight)
3 tbsp oil
1 onion chopped
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 tomatoes pureed
¾ tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
2 tbsp chole masala
½ tsp salt
Chopped coriander leaves


Boil the chana in a pressure cooker with water and ¼ tsp salt for 10 minutes. Then heat oil in a pan, add onions and saute for a few minutes. Then add ginger garlic paste and cook till raw smell goes. Now add tomatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cook till oil starts separating. Then add the boiled chickpeas, chole masala and salt. Mix well and cook for a minute. Finally add coriander leaves and 1 to 2 cups water. Bring the gravy to a boil, then reduce heat, close a lid and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve hot.
