BAKRID SPECIAL MUTTON BIRYANI/EID SPECIAL MUTTON BIRIYANI

Hi friends, welcome back to my blog. As you all know Bakrid is round the corner, so I thought of sharing the recipe of special Mutton Biryani that I make for Eid or any other special occasion or function.

This is a quick Mutton biryani and comes out delicious and perfect. If you are looking for an easy and delicious biryani that can be made in a pressure cooker then you have come to the right place. This Pressure cooker Mutton Biryani is flavorful and delicious and needs ingredients present in most Indian kitchens. I have not used Biryani masala in this recipe but the Mutton Biryani tasted amazingly delicious.

I have taken large pieces of Mutton and its quantity is more than 1/2 kg. You can also make Biryani with 500 gms Mutton, but to make the Biryani extra tasty and special, more quantity of meat is needed. Hence I have taken 600 gms of Meat for making 1/2 kg Biryani. You can also take 750 gms of meat for more flavor and taste.

Here I have shared the recipe of making 1/2 kg Mutton Biryani. You can increase the proportions of all ingredients to make 1 kg or 2 kg Mutton Biryani. While making large quantities of Biryani, use a large pressure cooker or a wide big pan. Here I have used a 5 litre pressure cooker to cook 1/2 kg Biriyani.

You can follow the same recipe if you are making in an Instant pot as well. In case you wish to cook Mutton Biryani in a wide vessel or pan, then you can check out my earlier recipe of Mutton Dum Biryani where I have explained the method in detail.

So without wasting any more time let's move on to the recipe of making delicious Bakrid special Mutton Biryani at home using a pressure cooker.

Ingredients

600 gms mutton with bone cut into big pieces
1/2 kg/ 500 gms/ 4 cups Basmati rice
1/2 cup oil
2 tbsp ghee
6 cardamoms, cinnamons and cloves each
3 onions finely sliced
2 green chillies
100 gms/4 heaped tbsp ginger garlic paste
3 tomatoes finely sliced
100 gms curd
1 cup chopped coriander and mint leaves
1/2 lemon
2 tsp red chilli powder
3 and 1/4 tsp salt
700 ml or 5 and 1/2 cup water

Method

  • Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker, add cardamoms, cinnamons and cloves along with sliced onions.
  • Saute for sometime till the onions turn brown and then add ginger garlic paste.
  • Saute for some time till the raw smell goes and then add coriander leaves, mint leaves and green chillies.
  • Now add salt, red chilli powder, and curd and mix well.
  • Next add tomatoes and saute for some time till oil starts separating.
  • Now add the mutton pieces, and saute for about 5 minutes.
  • Finally add 2 cups water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  • Now wash the basmati rice with tap water and then let it soak for sometime.
  • Pressure cook the mutton gravy for 6 to 8 whistles depending on the softness of the mutton.
  • Switch off the gas and allow the pressure to subside.
  • Open the lid and check if the mutton is cooked. (If not cook for some more whistles. This may happen because the meat that you get during Bakrid is a little hard and might take some more time to cook)
  • Once the mutton is cooked, add lemon juice and the remaining 3 and 1/2 cups water to the pressure cooker and bring to a boil.
  • Drain away the water from the Basmati rice and add the rice to the cooker.
  • Give it a stir and bring to a boil.
  • Now check for taste, add salt or chilli powder if necessary. (I did not add any)
  • Now close the lid and pressure cook in medium flame for 1 or 2 whistles.
  • Once done, transfer the cooker to a stand and allow the steam to release naturally.
  • Finally open the lid of the pressure cooker and close a plate.
  • Transfer this delicious Mutton biryani to a serving platter and serve hot with Onion raita, Khatte baingan and Fried Chicken.
