PANEER PEDA

Paneer or cottage cheese is often used in Indian cooking to prepare a variety of sweets and curries. Today’s recipe is a very simple recipe of peda made using paneer. You can prepare the paneer at home or use the ready made paneer for making this sweet.

Ingredients

1 litre milk
1 tbsp vinegar/ lime juice
3 tbsp milk powder
10 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
3 tbsp ghee
½ tsp cardamom powder
2 to 3 tbsp sliced pistachios

Method

  • Boil milk in a pan and add vinegar.
  • Cook for a few minutes in medium flame till the milk separates from the whey.
  • Switch off the gas and allow it to cool.
  • Strain the milk using a muslin cloth and drain out all the excess water.
  • Take the paneer and sugar in a mixer and grind to a paste.
  • Heat ghee in a thick bottomed pan, and transfer the paneer - sugar mix to it.
  • Add milk powder and cardamom powder and cook for 5 to 10 minutes while stirring continuously.
  • When it leaves the sides of the pan and slightly thickens, switch off the gas and allow the mix to cool.
  • Grease your hands and plate with oil and form circular or square pedas. Garnish with sliced pistachios and serve.

    1. Even though milk powder is best, you can substitute it with maida..
