Prawn masala is a delicious and spicy gravy that can be served with rice or chapathi. Here the prawns are cooked in an onion and tomato base and flavoured with soya sauce, vinegar and ketchup. The wonderful combination of flavours and spices add a fantastic taste to the gravy.
Ingredients
400 gms prawn
4 tbsp oil
1 cardamom
1 cinnamon
1 clove
½ onion chopped
1 ½ onion ground to a paste
¾ tbsp garlic paste
¾ tbsp ginger paste
1 ¼ tsp red chilli powder
3 tomatoes deseeded and ground to a paste
½ cup coriander leaves chopped
½ tsp salt (or to taste)
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tbsp soya sauce
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
Method
- Heat oil in a pan, add cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and chopped onions and saute for a minute.
- Then add garlic and ginger paste and saute till the raw smell goes.
- Add red chilli powder, salt and mix well.
- Add the onion and tomato paste and cook till oil starts separating.
- Next add in the prawns and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Add ½ cup water, vinegar and bring the gravy to a boil.
- Reduce heat , close a lid and cook for a few minutes till the prawns are tender.
- Finally add tomato sauce and soya sauce and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Serve hot.
