A SMALL GESTURE

Life is a cycle where both happiness and sadness go hand in hand. And if we have a strong support system with relatives, friends and well wishers who care for us, our joy gets multiplied and sadness gets divided. Being together fills our life with true joy and prepares us to face problems with strength and determination.
In this post I would like to discuss a memorable day in my life which filled me with optimism and gave me strength to tackle my problem. It was one small gesture from my physics professor that gave me hope and made me come out with flying colours.

It was during my college days when my physics practical exam was going on and I had got the most difficult and elaborate experiment to work on. I was good at practical and had come well prepared so I was quite cool about it. I planned my time and was doing my experiment as per my schedule. But it was my bad luck that the apparatus given to me was faulty and how much ever I tried I was not able to measure the readings properly. After about half an hour of trying, I got frustrated and requested the external examiner to have a look at the apparatus. After initial inspection he found that the apparatus was indeed faulty and I was given another apparatus to work on. In all this commotion I lost more than an hour and my confidence dipped to an all time low. Even though the examiner said that extra time would be given, the whole episode made me tensed and I started sweating profusely. I started doubting my own capabilities and was wondering whether at all I would be able to finish the experiment.

At that moment my strict professor who never uttered one kind word to me or anyone in my class before came to me and said in a gentle voice, “Don’t worry Amina, just relax..I am sure you can do it”. Her words though normal were like a catalyst to me and I was filled with renewed enthusiasm. I started my experiment all over again, worked hard and finished it in the stipulated time.

The icing on the cake came when the results were finally announced. I just could not believe my eyes when I saw that I had topped in my practical exams with full marks. It was only due to my professor and her words that I got hope and strength to finish the experiment and I owe all my success that day to her.

I realized how kind words or company of relatives or friends or a well wisher plays a huge effect in our lives. Motivation and optimism has the power to bring out the best in a person as he or she is filled with a renewed hope and enthusiasm for better future ahead.
