IDLI UPMA RECIPE

Hi friends, today I am sharing the recipe of making Idli upma. This is a breakfast or dinner recipe that I often make at home when I have leftover idlis or when I don't have time to prepare a curry for dinner. We just need some idlis and a few other ingredients and Idli upma gets ready in just 10 minutes.

I have already shared the recipe of making Idlis HERE. You can check out the link for making Idlis. Now, let's move on to the recipe of making Idli upma.

Ingredients

16 cooked Idlis
4 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 onion finely chopped
2 dry red chillies cut into 2piece each
handful of curry leaves
1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
salt to taste
pinch of turmeric powder
Handful of coriander leaves chopped

Method

  • Crumble the idlis to very small pieces or powder and keep ready.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow them to sputter.
  • Then add curry leaves, dry red chillies, onions and sauté for some time till the onions turn golden and soft.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute till the raw smell goes.
  • Next add salt and turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Now add the crumbled idlis and reduce flame.
  • Sprinkle 1/4 cup water on top along with coriander leaves and give it a quick mix..
  • Close a lid and let it cook in low flame for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Switch off the gas, open the lid and give it a mix.
  • Transfer the Idli upma to a serving bowl and serve hot.

I am participating Blogchatter's A to Z challenge and today's alphabet is I. Stay tuned for another recipe coming day after tomorrow starting with the letter J.

  1. I love idli upma a lot, and for that I ensure making extra idlis every time. Just that I keep them in small pieces/ cubes. I will try this way too.
