MELBOURNE: HERE I COME & A CONTEST

Melbourne! Melbourne! Melbourne! Every time I hear this word I am filled with joy and excitement. It is one place I have wanted to visit since quite some time. I first heard and saw about Melbourne in a travel show on Television and from then on I am simply hooked to it. The lush green landscape, the perfect roads, wonderful scenery, historical landmarks and shopping places are all that I have wished to see live. And when Indiblogger along with Tourism Victoria gave this opportunity to write about my favourite tourist destination I simply could not miss.

Melbourne has everything that a traveler dreams about - Tourist attractions like the Penguin parade, The great ocean road, Bathing boxes, the Melbourne Cricket ground, etc , theatre and musicals, restaurants and cafes, shopping destinations and plenty more. My tour to Melbourne would be incomplete if I do not visit the following places.

1. The Great ocean road:  The Great ocean road in Melbourne is one tourist attraction that is not to be missed. The road runs across beautiful oceans, amazing forests, sprawling farmlands and is a true ode to nature’s beauty. This probably would be the first thing I would do on my visit to Melbourne. Go on a long drive and inhale the beauty of nature and fresh air around me. It would be one drive of a lifetime and I would like to enjoy every moment of it.

2. Sovereign Hill: I would also like to visit the iconic Sovereign hill in the Victorian gold fields. It is a large 25 hectare site and is Australia’s largest recreation of a phase in history. Everything here is built and designed as to how it looked in the 1850s. You also get to go 60 feet underground and watch how a bar of gold is made live. Isn’t that fantastic!

You can also check out this video to get a brief idea.

3. Sunny Ridge strawberry farm: Being a food blogger, visiting the Sunny Ridge Strawberry farm is also in my radar. Plucking Beautiful and juicy red strawberries directly from the strawberry plant would be such a delight. I would use them to make my favourite preserves and ice creams.

4. Queen Victoria market: Think of shopping and how can one miss Queen Victoria market. It is one place that is not to be missed in Melbourne. It is spread over 17 hectares of land, and houses more than 1000 stalls. It is Melbourne’s shopping mecca and a historic landmark. It is also the largest open air market in the southern hemisphere.

Do check out this video for a round about visit of the market.

5. Panny’s amazing world of chocolate: My next stop in Melbourne would be to the Panny’s amazing world of chocolate. Getting a chance to see how chocolate is being made, witnessing the chocolate waterfall and creating my own bar of chocolate is something I have always dreamt of. This video gives you what you can expect here.

6. Melbourne Cricket ground: Visit to Melbourne would not be complete if I do not visit the MCG. The ICC cricket world cup is going to be held there and I would definitely like to watch a match or two sitting at the MCG and cheer for my favourite Indian cricketers.

  1. I would love to visit Panny’s amazing world of chocolate. That is because Panny is Kodandapani Lakhmanan an Indian. He arrived in Melbourne via Malaysia and Papua New Guinea, where he worked on the coconut plantations, before immigrating Down Under. He is now legend in Australia. Besides his chocolates are mouthwatering.

  3. Hi!
We know beauty never need words but without words it cannot be explained and when you get wordless after seeing it... your mouth still get open wide and WOW comes out. Dear! your explanation about Melbourne is wonderful and picturesque description. I am a person who always attracted to nature first of any place so I would love to see the Melbourne Nature & Wildlife. The 12 Apostles rock formations is world famous rocks which changes its color in sunrise and sun set. And then I will see the Phillip Island Nature Park where I want to see the animals which I hardly see in India. I never seen Penguins , Koala and other animals.
Driving on a smooth road with natural beauty around you, I always be a feeling of heaven on Earth. I would love to drive on Great Ocean Road which is also famous in world to give you a scenic experience and the pleasure of that driving is amazing.

  5. Wonderful post and interesting videos that make me feel that
Melbourne invites the eternal romantic in me to hold hands with my beloved and go see the Twelve Apostles .Go on long drives on the great ocean road. In the middle of nowhere in a vineyard spread a table and enjoy a meal and a glass of wine with my dear one. Enjoy the sunsets holding hands and do lots of shopping at the Queen Victoria Market and see all the graffiti being created at the hosier lane.
Great Post and interesting videos watching them I am sure to visit Sovereign Hill for spending some time in the era gone by. The lure of gold and panning for some nuggets is a temptation that is too much to resist. After I have found the gold I am bound to celebrate it with some wine so I will visit the vineyards and enjoy some great wine from the Yarra region .Visit the Pannys Phillip Island Chocolate Factory and have my fill with this yummy delight.

  6. MCG, the Australian mecca for cricket lovers. I would definitely like to be in Australia when either Indian team or the English team happens to be on tour, the nest time. Will be a memorable experience to watch the rivalry unfold right in front of my eyes, sitting right in the middle of MCG.

  9. A lovely Post! After reading your post and watching all the videos,
I feel I am witnessing a kaleidoscope called Melbourne! To answer your question, I'd love to go to the Queen Victoria Market, operating since 1878, to watch the locals sell fresh fruits and vegetables in such a vibrant environment :)
