HOW TO MAKE RIBBON PAKODA

Ribbon pakoda is a crispy snack made by making a dough with Bengal gram flour and rice flour and then deep frying it in oil using a press with rectangular shape. This is an ideal evening snack that goes well with tea. You can also make this ahead and store in air tight containers. For more snack recipes, you can also check out this page.

Ingredients

1/2 cup Bengal gram flour/ Besan
1/2 cup rice flour
¼ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp salt (or to taste)
¼ tsp asafetida powder (hing)
Pinch of turmeric powder
2 tsp butter (softened)
Water as required
Oil for frying

Method
  • Grease the insides of a pakoda press with oil and keep ready.
  • Take Bengal gram flour, rice flour, butter, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder, asafetida in a bowl and add water little by little and knead to make a smooth dough.
  • Check for taste and add salt or red chili powder if required.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan, and when oil is hot, reduce heat and take a ball of dough in the pakoda press.
  •  Place the press a few inches above the hot oil and carefully press moving in a circular motion so that the pakoda falls in the oil as shown.

  • Cook for a few minutes in low to medium flame and when the sizzling sound stops, carefully turn it to the other side and cook for a few seconds.
  • Use a spotted spoon to take it out and tap gently to remove excess oil.
  • In the same way make the remaining ribbon pakoda.
  • After the ribbon pakoda cools down completely, you can break them into pieces and transfer to an air tight container.
  • It stays good for atleast a week.
