Spinach or palak is rich source of Vitamins, folate and iron and consuming it is very good for the body. I have shared several recipes of spinach in this blog and today’s recipe is of a delicious and crunchy fritters/ bajji that you can serve as a tea time snack.


1 cup besan (gram flour)
1 cup thinly sliced spinach leaves
1 tsp red chilli powder
Salt to taste
1/8 tsp soda
oil for frying


  • Take all the ingredients in a bowl except oil and add water little by little to form a thick batter.
  • Check for taste and adjust salt or chilli powder if necessary.
  • Heat oil in a pan and when oil is hot, add a few drops of batter to it. When it comes directly to the surface, then oil is ready.
  • Now take the batter little by little with a spoon and gently drop into hot oil.
  • Deep fry the fritters till golden brown in colour.
  • Transfer to a tissue paper to remove excess oil and serve hot with tomato sauce or pudina chutney.
