For making the Onion and Cheese samosa, I have made the samosa sheet at home. You can also use ready made samosa sheets to speed up your cooking.
Makes: 8 samosas
Ingredients
For the samosa sheet
1/2 cup All purpose flour/ maida
1/2 cup wheat flour/ Atta
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
2 tbsp warm oil
water as needed
For the filling
1 onion finely sliced
2 cheese slices, cut into small pieces
1/4 tsp Salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp pepper powder (or to taste)
Oil for frying
For the flour paste
1/4 cup water
1 tsp wheat flour
Method
- Take a bowl, add flour, wheat flour, salt and oil and mix well.
- Then add water little by little and knead to make a soft dough.
- Close a lid and set aside for at least 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile we can make the filling and flour paste.
- For this, take a bowl, add onions, cheese, pepper powder and salt and mix well. Our filling is ready.
- For the flour paste, mix water and wheat flour together in a bowl and keep ready.
- Then take the dough and knead for another minute.
- Take a lemon size ball from the dough, dust some flour on it and on your counter and roll with a rolling pin to form a thin long rectangle. Use a knife to remove the uneven sides.
- It will now resemble a samosa sheet.
- In the same way, use the rest of the dough to make our home made samosa sheets and keep ready.
- Heat a tava or skillet and cook the samosa sheets for 2 seconds on each side and keep ready.
- Once the samosa sheets have cooled down, take a sheet and fold to form a cone and fill with a tsp of the filling.
- Close the edges with the flour paste and make sure there are no openings anywhere as cheese will come out if you have not properly closed the samosa.
- Once all the samosas are ready, heat oil in a pan and deep fry them till the samosas turn golden in color.
- These onion and cheese samosas get cooked fast and hence keep an eye to take them out when they change color.
- Transfer to a tissue paper on a plate to absorb excess oil.
- Fry 2 or 3 samosas at a time.
- Once done, serve the crispy and delicious Onion and Cheese samosa with tomato ketchup or mint chutney.
