Hi all, today I am sharing a quick side dish recipe using Cauliflower and Moong dal. This is a very quick semi gravy recipe which can be served with plain Rice, Dal and Rasam . Gobi Moong dal masala can also be served with chapathi or Rotis. We can also make Chapathi rolls using this cauliflower gravy stuffing and pack in our kid's tiffin boxes.

So, let's move on to the recipe of making Gobi Moong dal Masala

1 medium cauliflower cut into small florets
3 tbsp oil
1 onion finely chopped
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
2 tbsp moong dal
1 cardamom, 1 cinnamon
3 medium tomatoes pureed
1/2 tsp red chilli powder (or to taste)
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Handful of coriander leaves

  • Wash and soak moong dal in water.
  • Take the cauliflower florets in a pan, add a pinch of turmeric powder, salt and sufficient water and bring to a boil. Boil for about 5 minutes.
  • Then switch off the gas and strain the cauliflower using a strainer.
  • This step will remove or kill small worms that are present in cauliflower.
  • Now heat a pressure cooker, add oil, cardamom, cinnamon and onions.
  • Sauté till the onions turn golden, then add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a couple of minutes till the raw smell goes.
  • Next add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and tomato puree and mix well.
  • Cook till oil starts separating.
  • Drain away the excess water from moong dal and add to the cooker.
  • Mix well. Finally add cauliflower florets, coriander leaves and 1 cup water and mix well.
  • Close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • After the steam has escaped, open the lid. If there is water, then cook it for a couple of minutes till the water evaporates.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and serve hot with Rice, Dal and Rasam or with Chapathis or Roti.
