Pepper Potato and Mutton Curry is a delicious Mutton curry made with a base of Tomatoes, Onions and Pepper.  This is a traditional recipe that I learnt from my Mother-in-law. Pepper Potato and Mutton Curry is a spicy curry that you can serve with either White cooked rice or Roti/ Naan. This curry also goes well with Idli, dosa, upma, etc.

I make this curry for both Lunch and Dinner. During Ramadan, I make this Pepper Potato and Mutton curry for Seher and serve with either rice or chapathi/ Roti.

So, let's move on to the recipe of making Pepper Potato and Mutton curry.

300 gms mutton cut into pieces
1 potato cut into wedges
4 tbsp oil
1 large onion roughtly cut
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste

  • Wash and clean the mutton pieces and keep ready.
  • Take a mixer jar, add onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic paste, cinnamon stick, green chilli, stem of coriander leaves, salt and black pepper powder and grind to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add the ground paste and cook for about 5 minutes (or till the raw smell goes and oil starts separating) while stirring.
  • Then add the mutton pieces, coriander and mint leaves and mix well.
  • After a minute, add 1 and ½ cups or 2 cups water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
  • Pressure cook for 4 whistles or till the mutton is cooked.
  • While the Curry is getting cooked, boil the potatoes in 1 and 1/2 cups water along with 1/4 tsp salt for a few minutes till the potatoes and cooked.
  • Drain the water from the potatoes and keep the potatoes ready.
  • Once all the steam has come out, open the lid of the Pressure Cooker and add the potatoes to it.
  • Switch on the flame and boil for a minute. Meanwhile check for taste, add salt or pepper powder if required and switch off the gas.
  • Transfer the curry to a serving bowl.
  • Serve the Pepper Potato and Mutton curry hot with White cooked rice or chapathi.
