HOT MILK VANILLA SPONGE CAKE/ HOW TO MAKE PERFECT SPONGE CAKE AT HOME WITH STEP BY STEP PICTURES



Hot milk sponge cake has become very popular nowadays because of its simple recipe, easy mixing, and great taste. I have baked several cakes before and I must say, Hot milk sponge cake definitely is very easy to make and tastes awesome. You can serve Hot milk sponge cake as it is with tea or add any frosting of your choice. Hot milk sponge cake is also ideal for making Fruit Trifle.


Yes friends, Hot milk sponge cake indeed tastes delicious and is so soft and spongy. Further making Hot milk sponge cake requires very few basic ingredients that are available in most of our homes. This recipe has got the name Hot milk sponge cake because here, we do not cream the butter and sugar together as we do in usual sponge cakes. But we add hot milk along with butter to the eggs and sugar batter. This change in mixing adds a different texture and softness to the cake. I have got awesome reviews from people who have tried this Hot Milk sponge cake recipe when I posted this recipe in Facebook.

This Hot milk sponge cake is made with eggs and hence you get a nicely raised, firm and soft cake. You can serve this cake as a tea cake or cut it into layers and add cream or any other frosting of your choice. This recipe of  Hot milk vanilla sponge cake uses butter which adds a nice flavor and taste to the cake. You can also increase the proportion of ingredients and use it to make Birthday cakes and cut the Hot milk sponge cake into layers, adding butter cream or chocolate frosting.

Make sure you keep all the ingredients ready before baking the cake. The eggs have to be at room temperature and the butter has to be soft but not melted. You can also reduce the amount of sugar to 3/4 cup for a less sweet cake. Now let's head on to the recipe of making Soft, Spongy and delicious Hot milk Vanilla Sponge cake.

Ingredients Required for making Hot Milk Sponge Cake


1 cup all purpose flour/ maida
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 tbsp butter
½ cup milk

Method

  • Sieve All purpose flour and baking powder twice and keep ready.
  • Beat eggs in a bowl, add sugar and beat well till the sugar dissolves.
  • Preheat the oven at 180 degree Celsius for 10 minutes.
  • Heat milk and butter in a pan till the butter dissolves.
  • Add this mix to the egg- sugar mix and beat well.
  • Add vanilla essence and mix well.
  • Now add the dry ingredients and mix gently till there are no lumps.
  • Pour this into a greased aluminium cake mould and place it in the central rack of the oven with upper and lower rods “On”.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes till the toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow the hot milk sponge cake to cool down, invert the cake, cut and serve.
  • You can add any frosting of your choice or serve as it is.

  6. Could tell me the following please:
    1 - is it possible to substitute maida with whole wheat flour?
    2- is it possible to substitute sugar with honey or jaggery. If yes, could you please tell me the quantities to be used for the recipe?
    3- is there an alternative to butter such that there is less fat and calories?
    Sorry for the queries, just trying to loose weight and trying to make things that don't make me gain weight.
