CAPSICUM PANEER GRAVY

Paneer or cottage cheese is rich in proteins and calcium and is widely used in India to prepare curries, sweets, etc. Palak paneer, Kadai Paneer, Capsicum paneer gravy, Paneer butter masala are some of the most popular paneer based gravies served here. Paneer can also be easily prepared at home. We have made this gravy using our homemade paneer. Adding capsicums gave a wonderful taste to the dish.

Ingredients

100 gms paneer or homemade paneer made from 1 litre of milk
1 medium sized capsicum chopped
3 tomatoes deseeded and blended
1 onion finely chopped
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
3 tbsp oil
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste
1/2 cup curd
A pinch of sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Chopped coriander leaves

Method

Cut the paneer into small cubes and deep fry in oil till they are slightly golden in colour. Transfer this to a bowl of hot water along with ¼ tsp salt and let it soak in water for about 10 minutes. If you wish to keep the paneer cubes crispy, you can skip this step.

Now heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions and saute for a minute. Next add capsicums and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Then add garlic and ginger paste and saute for some time. When the raw smell goes, add tomato paste, red chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and sugar. Cook till the oil starts leaving the surface. Then add curd and 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Finally add garam masala powder, coriander leaves and the fried paneer cubes. Close a lid and cook in a slow flame for about 5 minutes. Serve hot with roti, paratha or naan.
