Murgh khaara seviyan/ semiya or Spicy Chicken vermicelli is a flavourful and delicious dish that you can prepare for breakfast or dinner. Chicken Vermicelli can also be served as an evening snack when you have tea parties or family get together. It is easy and quick to cook with few ingredients. Serves 3 to 4

200 gms roasted vermicelli (seviyan)
3/4 cup boneless chicken cut into small pieces
3 tbsp oil
1 onion sliced
1 cardamom
1 cinnamon
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste
3 tomatoes deseeded and pureed
1 tsp salt
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 green chilli (optional)
Coriander and mint leaves
2 and 1/4 cups water

  • Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan, add onions, cardamom and cinnamon and saute till the onions turn golden.
  • Now add garlic paste and ginger paste and saute for a few minutes till the raw smell goes.
  • Next add red chilli powder and salt and mix well.
  • Now add the tomato puree and mix well.
  • Continue cooking in low flame for 3 to 4 minutes till oil starts separating and the raw smell of tomato goes.
  • Add coriander and mint leaves along with green chilli and chicken pieces and mix well.
  • Saute for 3 to 4 minutes till the chicken is cooked.
  • Then add water and bring to a boil.
  • When water starts boiling, add vermicelli and mix well.
  • Cook for a minute in high flame then reduce heat and close a lid.
  • Cook for about 5 minutes in low flame.
  • Mix well and check if the vermicelli is cooked.
  • If not, cook the vermicelli for a few more minutes in low flame.
  • Transfer the Chicken Semiya to a serving bowl and garnish with coriander eaves. Serve hot.
