PRAWN BIRIYANI RECIPE WITH VIDEO

Prawn Biriyani is a delicious biriyani bursting with flavours. I have shared a recipe of making prawn biryani at home in one of my earlier posts where we cook rice and khurma separately and create a dum for the biryani. But today, I am going to share an easy and short cut method of making prawn biryani in just 30 minutes. Here I have cooked the biriyani in a pressure cooker and have also added rice directly to the biryani gravy. Hence we don't have to cook rice separately. The biryani came out delicious. You can serve this biryani with onion raita, chicken 65 and khatte baingan.

Ingredients

1/2 kg basmati rice soaked in water for 1 hour
1/2 kg prawns
1/2 cup oil
2 cardamoms
2 cinnamons
1 large onion thinly sliced
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste
3 tsp salt or to taste
2 tsp red chilli powder or to taste
4 large tomatoes deseeded and pureed
handful of coriander leaves
1 green chilli
1/2 cup curd
6 cups water
juice of 2 small lemons

Method

  • Wash and soak the basmati rice in water for atleast 1 hour.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cardamoms, cinnamons and sliced onions and saute till the onions turn soft.
  • Then add garlic and ginger pastes and saute for a minute till the raw smell goes.
  • Next add salt, red chilli powder, and coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Next add tomato puree and cook till oil starts separating.
  • Then add green chilli and curd and mix well.
  • Now add the prawns and mix well.
  • Next add basmati rice, 6 cups of water and lemon juice.
  • Mix well and close the lid.
  • Pressure cook for 1 or 2 whistles.
  • Once the steam has escaped, open the lid and mix gently.
  • Serve hot with onion raita, chicken 65 and khatte baingan
