PUNJABI CHICKEN CURRY RECIPE + VIDEO




Hi friends, today I am going to share a quick, and delicious recipe of Punjabi Chicken curry. Punjabi chicken curry is a spicy and flavourful chicken delicacy. It is easy to prepare and can be cooked in less than half an hour. Here I have used pressure cooker to reduce cooking time. This curry tastes great with pulaonaan, plain rice, idiyappam, dosa, idlis or even Chapathi and Rotis.

This chicken curry recipe is my go-to recipe when I am short of time and wish to make something really delicious. I usually serve this lip smacking Punjabi chicken curry with Pulao or Ghee rice.



Now let's head on to the recipe of making Punjabi Chicken Curry/ Punjabi Chicken Masala

Serves = 6                                                              
Ingredients

500 gms chicken
4 tbsp oil
2 Cardamoms
2 cinnamon
2 cloves
1 bay leaf
2 onions roughly cut
5 big tomatoes roughly cut and seeds removed
1/2 cup curd
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste
2 tsp red chilli powder
2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 turmeric powder
2 tsp cumin powder
2 tsp Salt (or to taste)
handful of coriander and mint leaves
1 and 1/2 tbsp garam masala powder
1 green chilli
2 cups water

Method

  • Clean and wash the chicken and keep ready. 
  • Take onions in a mixer jar. Grind to a smooth paste. Keep ready.
  • Similarly grind tomatoes to a smooth paste. Keep ready.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cardamoms, cinnamons, cloves, bay leaf and onion paste. Saute for a couple of minutes.
  • Next add garlic and ginger paste and cook till the raw smell goes.
  • Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt and mix well. Cook for about 2 minutes. 
  • Now add tomato puree and cook in low flame for a couple of minutes.
  • Next add curd, garam masala powder, green chilli and coriander and mint leaves.  
  • Finally add the chicken pieces along with 2 cups water and close the lid of the pressure cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles. 
  • Open the lid of the cooker and check if the chicken is cooked.
  • Then transfer to a bowl and garnish with coriander leaves. 
  • Serve hot with pulao, naan, plain rice, idiyappam, dosa, or idlis.
