DOUBLE KA MEETHA/ EID SPECIAL SWEET RECIPE

Hi friends, welcome back to my blog. As Eid is round the corner, I am going to share a delicious and easy to make sweet recipe that you can make for Bakrid. Today I am going to share the recipe and method of making Double ka meetha or Bread halwa.

Bread is also called Double roti in India and hence the sweet made with bread is called Double ka Meetha. Double ka Meetha is very popular in Hyderabad and is a very popular street food there. Double ka Meetha is slightly different from Shahi Tukda that I shared earlier. Even though both these sweet dishes are made with bread, the method of making and the ingredients used is slightly different. If you wish to make Shahi Tukde, you can check out the recipe in the Shahi Tukde page.

For making Double ka Meetha, we need very few ingredients. They are bread, sugar, ghee, milk, cardamoms, and water. You can also add a pinch of saffron or orange food color to give a nice color to the Double ka Meetha. Here I have used 1 cup ghee which  I added little by little to fry the bread pieces.

Also cut off the sides of the bread slices and cut each into 4 pieces each.

Now let's move on to the recipe of making Double ka Meetha or Bread halwa.

Ingredients

9 bread slices (cut into 4 pieces each)
1 cup ghee
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup milk
3 cardamoms
1/3 cup chopped dry fruits (cashews, pistachios, almonds)

Method
  • Heat 1/4 cup ghee in a wide pan and fry some bread pieces. Fry on one side, then flip over and fry on the other side too till the bread pieces turn golden brown in color.

  • Once done, transfer to a plate. In the same way fry the remaining bread pieces in 2 or 3 batches and keep ready.

  • Then heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan and add the chopped dry fruits.
  • Fry till they turn golden and transfer to a bowl. Keep ready.
  • Now heat water and sugar in the same pan and let the sugar melt.
  • Add cardamoms and boil for 2 minutes.
  • Add milk and bring to a boil.
  • Then reduce flame, and add all the bread pieces.
  • Cook in low flame for 5 to 7 minutes and gently press so that all the bread pieces absorb the syrup.
  • When there is no syrup left, add 3/4 th quantity of the fried dry fruits and switch off the gas.

  • Tranfer to a serving bowl and garnish with remaining nuts on top.
  • Serve hot.
